Work Experience - Points to think about

pointsPoints for Students to think about at the beginning:

• If you want a particular job, try and find your own self placement and return the completed paperwork within the deadline given to you at school
• Is the type of placement that interests you likely to be available in your local area?
• Have you thought about how you are going to get there? (e.g. cost of travel or if it’s in a place that you’d need someone to take you to in a car)
• What will you realistically be allowed to do on the placement?  Certain jobs will involve a lot of observation as students don’t have the skills required to carry out certain skilled tasks (e.g. hairdressers, vets).

Points for Students to think about just before the placement:

• Have you contacted the employer to confirm your placement ?
• Have you made your transport arrangements?
• What will you wear?
• Where and who will you report to on your first morning and what hours will you work?
• Make sure you ask the employer to explain the Health and Safety arrangements to you before you start
