    Learning About Work

    Enterprise activities suitable for KS3

Through these exciting “design and make” activities students will have an enhanced understanding of the importance of communication, problem solving and teamwork along with their own personal attributes including inventiveness and creativity, drive, perseverance and self confidence. Through understanding the processes involved in establishing a new enterprise students learn the requisite skills, attitudes and qualities needed in the workplace.

    Cobblers

Teams of students form rival shoe-manufacturing companies. Students use a variety of business concepts to promote their product and company culminating in a mini presentation to a panel of judges.

    Get Shirty

Each team designs, markets and manufactures their product in order to impress a panel of judges.  However, as in the real world, a variety of unexpected events may occur.

    Card Factory

Students design, market and produce a set of greetings cards.  Bonus points will be available for innovative ideas.

    Enterprise activities suitable for KS3 & KS4

Through these exciting programmes students will have an enhanced understanding of the knowledge and skills used by entrepreneurs when planning and creating economic ventures. Using communication, problem solving and teamwork skills students discover their own individual talents and ideas and how to make the best use of economic and business circumstances, markets, demand and selling.

    Tap On

An activity designed to highlight Social Enterprise.  Supporting an African Village with a serious drought problem, students devise a campaign to raise funds and to decide how the money will be best spent.

    Hotel

Students learn about the running of a big hotel as well as understanding about the importance of customer care and how to prioritise tasks.

    The Challenge Cup

Students are put in charge of a failing football club in the hope that they will be able to turn it around. Managing such a project has problems of its own!

    Tomorrows Managers Today

A fast paced business simulation activity in which students become Managers of Companies, which design, produce and sell cardboard vans.  Business facilitators are on hand to assist the teams guiding them through virtual reality trails and tribulations of a vehicle manufacturer.

Through this exciting programme students will have an enhanced understanding of the knowledge and skills used by entrepreneurs when planning and creating economic ventures.  Students have the opportunity to engage with ideas, challenges and applications from the business world which will enhance their economic and business understanding – such as the concepts of market, competition, price, efficiency, growth, resources and responsibility.

Tailored Programmes for Learners with Special Needs

We recognise that there is a wide variety of special needs so that a suitable programme would be agreed with each school.  All the programmes listed below will involve Team Working, Communication, Marketing and Financial skills.

While many of our activities can be successfully delivered in special schools, we would recommend the activities listed below:

    Introduction to Enterprise / Business

A selection of hands on activities through which students are introduced to some enterprise and business skills.

    Hats R Us

Working in teams, students design and produce a hat to fit a member of their team.  Students also produce a marketing display to market their company.

    Best Dressed

Students work in teams to set up clothes companies.  An item of clothing is produced from resources made available.  The day culminates with a fashion show!

Students can also take part in a “World of Work Carousel” supported by local employers, who demonstrate their work to the students.   Students then complete a practical activity, such as cake decorating or potting plants which is linked to the job.

EBPlus can also arrange for students to visit a local employer in order for them to gain an understanding of the world of work.
