Industry Visit to Eddie Stobart Logistics Friday 9th July 2010
Education Business Plus provides industry visits for education staff to enhance their professional development. As part of this support a small group of Information Technology lecturers from Macclesfield College spent a morning at the Eddie Stobart Logistics control centre near Warrington.
The lecturer’s were able to meet key members of the team and observe the important role information technology plays in liaising with customers and operating over 1,850 tractor units to supply goods both locally and abroad.
Jenny Smith, Lecturer at Macclesfield College said “ this visit will allow me to make assignment work for pupils that is clearly linked to a relevant industry”.
Following the visit, Zoe Pickering, Learning and Development Manager at the company has offered to visit the college to talk to the IT students in order to share with them her passion and enthusiasm – particularly in the way that information technology has been used in logistics at Eddie Stobart.
The visit was a fantastic opportunity to provide a real life understanding of how industry operates and works together to provide a service to the customer in a unique and successful way.
